Indian woman, 24, lands in US for ‘arranged marriage’, goes missing days later

Surveillance footage from the area reportedly shows her looking at her phone and appearing to wait for someone. Officers noted that she did not appear to be in any kind of distress at the time, reported NYP.

According to the report, the woman is described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 68 kg, with a small scar on the left side of her forehead. She was last seen wearing grey sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and diamond-studded earrings.

No known US contacts, limited communication

Simran, who does not speak English well and has no known relatives in the US, was reportedly carrying an international phone that only functions through Wi-Fi. According to the police, her limited ability to communicate in English and lack of local connections has made the search more difficult.

“At this time there are no known family members in India to contact to obtain her possible whereabouts,” Patch and New York Post quoted Lindenwold Police Department as saying in a statement on Thursday. 

While investigators were told she came to the US for an arranged marriage, authorities are also considering the possibility that she may have used the marriage proposal as a means to enter the country while having no intention of marrying, NYP reported.

The police have urged anyone with any information on her whereabouts to contact the Lindenwold Police Department immediately.
