Lebanon’s Hezbollah on Wednesday pledged to maintain its resistance and support for Palestinians, including fighters, a day after a ceasefire agreement between the group and Israel was announced.
In its first statement since the deal was declared, Hezbollah’s operations centre avoided any direct reference to the ceasefire agreement.
“The Islamic resistance’s operations room confirms that its fighters across all military disciplines will remain fully prepared to confront the ambitions and aggressions of the Israeli enemy,” the group stated.
It further noted that its fighters would continue to observe the withdrawal of Israeli forces beyond Lebanon’s borders “with their hands on the trigger.”
The ceasefire agreement entails the withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon within 60 days, according to Israeli officials.
The agreement, brokered by the US and France, concluded the most lethal confrontation in years between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group. However, Israel continues its battle against the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
