US President Donald Trump hit out at Chinese President Xi Jinping for inviting Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to the military parade.

In a sarcastic swipe, Trump accused Xi of “conspiring against the United States” along with Putin and Kim Jong Un.

He also questioned the Chinese leader whether he would acknowledge and honour the sacrifices made by American soldiers during World War II to help China secure its freedom from foreign invaders.

“The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and “blood” that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader. Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice! May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration,” he wrote in a post on his Truth Social account.

Earlier, Trump shrugged off suggestions that the deepening of ties between China and Russia posed challenges to the United States on the world stage.

He told reporters in the Oval Office that he had a “good relationship” with Xi and that China need the United States “more than we need them”.

“I have a very good relationship with President Xi, as you know. But China needs us much more than we need them. I don’t see that at all,” he said.

Trump’s remarks come as China kicked off its largest-ever military parade on Wednesday, marking the 80th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II.

Flanked by Putin and Kim, the Chinese president warned the world that it was facing a choice between peace and war and between dialogue and confrontation.

Xi, while addressing the crowd of over 50,000 at Tiananmen Square, said, “Today, mankind is faced with the choice of peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, win-win or zero-sum,” adding that the Chinese people firmly stand on the right side of history.

The event is widely being viewed as a part of the Chinese leader’s efforts to demonstrate Beijing’s growing clout on the international stage.
