Ahead of the school reopening on Monday, August 25, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has announced that government employees will be granted flexible work timings on the first day.
According to the ‘Back to School’ policy, federal ministries and entities have been instructed to permit employees flexibility in arrival and departure times on the first day of school so they can accompany their children to and from school or home.
The total duration of this flexibility is limited to three hours on Monday and government employees, whose children are school students, can avail of this option, according to systems in place within the entity and with the approval of their direct manager, the directive said.
It further noted that employees, who are parents of nursery and kindergarten-going children, are entitled to similar flexible working hours for a week to help them adjust to the pick and drop schedules.
The new policy also allows employees up to three hours for attending parent-teacher meetings, graduation ceremonies, or other school-related events.
The UAE introduced flexible work timings for government employees for the first time last year to provide necessary flexibility in the work environment without affecting the workflow and service delivery of employees.
This year, several private companies have also rolled out similar measures, allowing flexible working hours for employees on the day schools reopen.
Schools across the UAE are set to reopen on Monday, August 25, after the Summer break. Over a million students from diverse ethnic, national and religious backgrounds will return to classes starting on Monday.
Ahead of the school reopening, elaborate arrangements, including traffic management, are being made across the UAE to deal with the back-to-school rush.
