The FBI on Friday arrested multiple individuals in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over the Halloween weekend, director Kash Patel announced on social media.
“This morning the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend,” Patel wrote in a post on X.
He also praised law enforcement personnel for their vigil, saying, “Thanks to the men and women of the FBI and law enforcement everywhere standing guard 24/7 and crushing our mission to defend the homeland.”
Patel did not disclose specific details about the arrests but said additional information would be shared soon.
Dearborn Police confirmed in a separate post that the FBI conducted operations in the city earlier in the day, assuring residents that there was “no threat to the community.”
According to The Associated Press, the arrests come months after federal authorities in May detained Ammar Said, a Michigan man accused of planning an attack on a US Army facility in suburban Detroit on behalf of the Islamic State group. Said’s co-conspirators turned out to be undercover FBI operatives.
Said remains in federal custody and is charged with attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization. The criminal complaint against him was replaced in September with a formal “information” document, a move that typically signals a forthcoming guilty plea.
