A mysterious giant hole spotted in gas-rich Siberia, northern Russia has baffled the scientists. The giant crater, discovered by a helicopter crew, has not only left scientists scrambling for answers but the 262 feet-wide hole has also prompted an urgent expedition.

The aerial video posted on YouTube show a huge hole as wide as 80 meters in northern Russia’s Yamal Peninsula – which translates as ‘the end of the world’.

According to a report in the The Siberian Times, the hole was discovered and filmed by a helicopter crew.

Although the cause of the sudden appearance of the hole is not known yet, experts are speculating global warming releasing gases under the surface to be the cause of the crater. Ever since the video was posted online, the internet has been abuzz with rumours of the arrival of UFOs, and web speculations about a large meteor striking the earth.
