A hospital in the Gaza Strip has received internet signals after the aid of the United Arab Emirates and Israel, the owner of Starlink internet Elonk Musk has revealed.
The initiative which is aimed to support the medical facilities in the war torn region will aid in having a high speed internet connection to get medical consultations which could be life saving in nature.
In a post on social media platform X, Elon Musk said, “Starlink is now active in a Gaza hospital with the support of UAE and Israel.”
The internet connectivity in Gaza is relatively weak due to the absence of power and fuel to operate the centre which holds the provider network. And as a result, the medical staff and rescue teams remain in a lurch while working throughout the hospitals.
The poor internet connection also affects the hospital services and the health ministry’s centralised system adversely.
The Israel-Gaza war started when Hamas led fighters in a surprise move attacked Israel on October 7 last year and killed around 1,200 people while taking 250 hostages back to their Palestinian centre, according to Israel’s data.
In response, Israel launched an offensive against Gaza as it housed the Hamas group and Benjamin Netanyahu led administration has till now killed more than 39,000 Palestinians, as per the Hamas led Gaza’s health ministry.
Starlink, which is known around the globe for its deployment of internet connectivity in the war torn regions, has been instrumental in this project.
According to a report by Bloomberg, the Starlink internet connectivity was activated in Yemen and Sudan without proper government clearance.
But the Starlink’s connectivity in a Gaza hospital was provided after an agreement with Israel that the internet will not be used by Hamas led fighters.
