A drone targeted the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday during continued hostilities with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza.
The Israeli government confirmed that the drone attack on Netanyahu’s home in Caesarea, a coastal town, resulted in no casualties as neither he nor his wife were present at the time.
Netanyahu responded to the incident, stating, “The proxies of Iran who today tried to assassinate me and my wife made a bitter mistake.” While Hezbollah did not claim responsibility, it acknowledged carrying out several rocket attacks on Israel as fighting escalated, with the militant group declaring a new phase in the conflict.
The Israeli military reported dozens of projectiles launched from Lebanon, coinciding with Israel’s retaliatory airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in Beirut’s southern suburbs. Lebanese authorities confirmed that Israel had carried out at least 10 airstrikes on Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold.
Additionally, the US defence secretary, Lloyd Austin, urged Israel to limit strikes in Beirut, noting that civilian casualties in Lebanon were “far too high.”
As the violence intensified, Israeli forces launched more strikes in Gaza, targeting hospitals and killing over 50 people, including children. According to Palestinian health officials, strikes hit facilities such as the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahiya and Al-Awda Hospital in Jabaliya, causing casualties and panic among civilians.
The war has displaced millions, with Israel issuing warnings for civilians to evacuate areas in Lebanon, and Gaza residents suffering from severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. Despite the rising toll, Israel remains committed to defeating Hamas, particularly after the death of its leader, Yahya Sinwar, who masterminded last year’s deadly attack on Israel.
Netanyahu has stated that the military campaign will continue until all hostages taken by Hamas are freed, while both sides show no sign of backing down.
