Donald Trump, who was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, expressed doubts over the long-term stability of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, saying he is “not confident” that the temporary truce will hold.
In his inaugural speech, Trump marked the beginning of his second term with sweeping promises to reshape the nation. Trump’s first remarks on foreign policy came while speaking to reporters on Monday, where he emphasized that the ongoing conflict is not a direct concern for the United States. “That’s not our war. It’s their war,” he said.
Trump also spoke on the potential for rebuilding Gaza, which has been devastated by months of fighting. He compared the region to a “massive demolition site” but suggested that, with the right approach, it could be transformed. “Some beautiful things could be done with it,” Trump said.
Drawing from his background as a real estate developer, he said, “Gaza has a phenomenal coastline, great weather, and location. Some fantastic things could be built there.”
