Severe weather in Kentucky since last week has led to the death of 21 people as the state was hit with deadly flooding and freezing temperatures and has continued to devastate the central Plains.
Kentucky’s Governor Andy Beshear informed on Saturday that the death toll from flood and snowy weather in the state has risen to 21. “I’m sad to share the number of those lost to the weather this week has grown to 21, with the most recent a man in Logan County,” he said.
In his post on X, Andy further added that “These are our fellow Kentuckians, each one a child of God gone too soon. Please join Britainy and me as we pray for their families.”
According to an NBC News report, the victims of the severe weather include several adults who died from hypothermia or flooding and a child also died along with her mother as the car they were in, swept away in the flooding.
As per the winter weather alerts from the Central Plains to Carolina Coast, around 60 million people were under the alerts since the snow storm alongside floods intensified in the region.
Governor Beshear, in a video, said “We have hundreds of families that have been impacted that are gonna be digging out and mucking out today that have lost so much.”
