Hours after US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a US-proposed Gaza plan, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it “a great day for Israel.” He also said that Israel would “achieve all goals in the Trump peace plan for Gaza”.

Taking to X, Netanyahu expressed his delight over the agreement, which allows for the release of all hostages. “Tomorrow I will convene the government to approve the agreement and bring all our dear hostages home,” he said.

Out of the 20 conditions suggested by Trump initially — only two pointers, namely — release of hostages and pulling back troops — have been agreed upon in this first phase. Hamas said that the initial plan would be subject to negotiations.

“With the approval of the first phase of the plan, all our hostages will be brought home. This is a diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for the State of Israel,” Netanyahu added in another post.

The prime minister thanked the “heroic soldiers of the IDF and all the security forces” for their courage and sacrifice. “Thanks to their bravery and dedication, we have reached this day,” he said.

Netanyahu also expressed his gratitude to Trump, thanking him “from the depths of his heart” for brokering the deal that paved the way for the hostages’ release.

“Through steadfast resolve, decisive military action, and the tireless efforts of our friend and ally President Trump, we have reached this critical turning point. I thank President Trump for his leadership, his partnership, and his unwavering commitment to the safety of Israel and the freedom of our hostages,” he wrote.

“With the help of the Almighty, together we will continue to achieve all our goals and expand peace with our neighbors,” he added.

“God bless Israel. God bless America. God bless our enduring alliance,” Netanyahu concluded.

First phase of Gaza peace plan

US President Donald Trump Thursday announced that both the countries have accepted the first phase of the Gaza peace plan.

The plan has two main components: the release of hostages and Israeli withdrawal from certain parts of Gaza.

In his Truth Social post, the US president added, “This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace.”

“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan,” he added.

Hamas also issued a statement announcing the end of the war in Gaza. The militant group said, “stipulating an end to the war on Gaza, the occupation’s withdrawal from it, the entry of aid, and a prisoner exchange.”
