US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he had a “very good” phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, adding that both sides reviewed recent cooperation and agreed to stay in regular contact. Trump made the remarks in a post on Truth Social.
Trump said the call covered several issues, including the Ukraine–Russia war, fentanyl, soybeans and other farm products. He wrote that the two countries had made “important” progress on agreements reached during their meeting in South Korea three weeks ago.
“This call was a follow-up to our highly successful meeting in South Korea,” he said, adding that both sides had worked to keep their commitments “current and accurate”.
Trump said Xi had invited him to visit Beijing in April, an invitation he accepted. He added that he had, in turn, invited Xi for a state visit to the United States later in the year.
“We agreed that it is important that we communicate often,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, saying he looked forward to further talks. He ended the post by thanking readers for “your attention to this matter”.
