2 students from Telangana killed, 5 injured in UK road accident

Two Telangana students, Chaitanya Tarre and Rishi Teja Rapolu, died in a road accident at Rayleigh Spur roundabout in Essex, UK. Five others were seriously injured. Essex Police are investigating.

Two students from Telangana were killed and five others seriously injured after two cars collided at the Rayleigh Spur roundabout in Essex, south-east England, early Monday, Essex Police confirmed.

Chaitanya Tarre, 23, died on the spot while 21-year-old Rishi Teja Rapolu died of his injuries shortly after being admitted to hospital. According to Essex Police, two men from Barking in east London, aged 23 and 24, who were driving the cars involved, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Both have since been released on bail until November 20.

“Sadly, one man died at the scene while another died in hospital. Specialist officers are supporting their families. Five other people were taken to hospital with serious injuries,” Essex Police said in a statement, PTI reported. The force has appealed to the public for CCTV, dash cam, or other footage related to the collision on the A130, a major dual carriageway.

Community and consular support for victims

The National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and support for those injured.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Essex, UK, involving nine students from the Telugu community,” NISAU UK said in a statement. “The accident has claimed the precious lives of two young students, Chaitanya Tarre and Rishi Teja Rapolu. Our heartfelt condolences go out to their families and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the body added.

NISAU UK also noted that several other students remain under urgent medical care. “We are keeping them and their families in our thoughts and prayers, and we hope for their swift and full recovery,” the statement added. The organisation said it is coordinating with members of the Telangana community and Indian consular authorities to extend necessary support.
