World Youth Skills Day 2025 History and Theme: To highlight the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship, the United Nations General Assembly in November 2014 designated July 15 to be celebrated as World Youth Skills Day.

The inaugural celebration took place on July 15, 2015, and this year, in 2025, it will be observed on Tuesday, July 15, marking the 10th anniversary of World Youth Skills Day (WYSD).

This year’s theme centres on youth empowerment through AI and digital skills, emphasising that the importance of equipping youth with AI and future-ready skills can address today’s challenges and build a more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future.

According to UN data, approximately 450 million young people (7 out of 10) are economically disengaged due to a lack of necessary skills to thrive in the labour market.

While AI can pose serious risks if not implemented equitably, it’s undeniable that it is transforming how we live, learn, and work. This is why World Youth Skills Day aims to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of youth skill development in response to the challenges of unemployment and underemployment that young people face worldwide.

This observance promotes vocational training, education, and apprenticeships as pathways to enhance youth employability and entrepreneurship.

Organisations, educational institutions, and communities organise skill development workshops, training programs, and career fairs to provide practical learning opportunities and connect youth with employers.
