Jharkhand Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the state of Jharkhand saw 4 of its 14 seats going for polling in phase 6 on Saturday, May 25, with the overall voter turnout of the phase witnessing a rise in their numbers as compared to phase five pollings with 64.22 which is higher than phase 5 pollings of 63.21 per cent. However, it was lower than the phase 4 polling of 65.31 per cent. The next phase of voting in Jharkhand will take place in phase 7 on Saturday, June 1, with all of its remaining three seats up for polling.
The election history of Jharkhand demonstrates that no single party has been able to establish a definite dominance in the state’s political landscape. The BJP-led NDA alliance won 12 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, while the Congress and JMM each gained one.
However, the JMM, C0ngress, and RJD alliance’s victory in the 2019 Assembly elections highlighted the dynamic and ever-changing political environment, making it difficult to anticipate the result in 2024 General elections because of this eccentricity.
Although Jharkhand has an abundance of natural resources, it also faces issues including unemployment, poverty, and a lack of infrastructure development. Voter sentiment will be greatly impacted by how the ruling government performs on these matters. It is probable that the campaigns of the NDA and the I.N.D.I.A coalition will centre around pledges of improved development and employment generation.
Historically, the General Elections in Jharkhand are contested in the latter half of the electoral period. Once again, ECI (Election Commission of India) has decided to continue with the old format, as the land of forests will see their 2024 Lok Sabha polls being scheduled in the second half, i.e., on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.
Phase 4: Date of polling- May 13
Phase 5: Date of polling- May 20
Phase 6: Date of polling- May 25
Phase 7: Date of polling- June 1
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the polls in Jharkhand were organised in four phases, while it was done in three phases in 2014. With keeping in mind the complexities of the landscape of these constituencies, ECI has once again opted to organise the 2024 General Elections in four phases in Jharkhand, continuing the trend from the 17th Lok Sabha elections.
Jharkhand ranks joint 14th in the list of Indian states with the most number of Lok Sabha seats alongside Assam, as they both hold a total of 14 seats in their account. The state also has a large number of Tribal communities, as a result 6 of the 14 seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates. In both 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, BJP came out as the biggest party in the state’s Lok Sabha Elections by winning a total of 12 out of 14 seats, both the times.

Notably, despite having performed dominantly in the last three Lok Sabha Elections in the state, BJP-led NDA will be facing a stiff competition in 2024, in the form of newly formed I.N.D.I.A alliance, which was also the case during the last assembly elections of the state where the alliance of JMM, INC and RJD came out victorious against the ruling NDA government.
