Bank Holidays in India, September 2024: India observes plenty of bank holidays throughout the year. These holidays comprise national holidays, state-specific festivals, and significant observances.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has the authority to determine all bank holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays, and bank account closure restrictions that are applicable all over India for both public and private banks.
It recently released the bank holidays for September 2024 and will observe a total of 12 non-working days, including regional and state-specific holidays declared by the different state governments, as well as statutory closures on the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays of each month.
Banks halt operations on these specified holidays, and no physical financial services are provided. However, contemporary digital banking technologies have made it easier to manage financial activities even during the holidays.
