— Following the dramatic April arrest of Ecuador’s former Vice President Jorge Glas, who had been living in the Mexican embassy in Quito since December, Mexico and Ecuador both filed complaints against the other at the International Court of Justice, often known as the World Court.
— Mexico has accused Ecuador of breaking international law by breaking into the embassy, while Ecuador accuses the North American country of illegally granting asylum to Glas, who has been convicted twice of corruption and faces further allegations.
— Mexico had requested emergency measures against Ecuador to secure the protection of the embassy and the houses of Mexican diplomats.
— The court recognises that Ecuador’s good faith should be presumed and states unequivocally that the current conditions pose no harm to Mexico’s rights.
Therefore, option (b) is the correct answer.
FYI:
— Chad swore in Mahamat Deby Itno as the president after holding elections earlier this month, completing a disputed transition to democratic rule after he seized power three years ago.
— The long-delayed election came after three years of military rule.
— Deby Itno, also known as Mahamat Idriss Deby, succeeded his father, Idriss Deby Itno, who was killed battling rebels in 2021 after controlling the country for three decades.
— Since its independence in 1960, following decades of French colonial domination, the oil-exporting country of roughly 18 million people has not had a democratic transfer of power.
— In his first presidential address, Deby Itno stated that his government’s priorities will be to strengthen Chad’s agricultural and farming sectors, as well as to invest in education, water access, and healthcare.
Therefore, option (d) is the correct answer.

— According to the two US officials, the package includes high mobility artillery rocket systems, also known as HIMARS, as well as 155 mm and 105 mm high-demand artillery munitions.
Therefore, option (c) is the correct answer.
FYI:
— Buddha’s birthday is a holy day for all Buddhists, however the date varies based on the school of Buddhism or country to which one belongs.
— In most Asian nations and the diaspora, Buddhists spend the entire day at their local temples chanting, meditation, and celebrating. Families decorate their homes with lanterns and host feasts.
— The centrepiece of the celebration in South Korea is the lotus lantern festival, known as Yeondeunghoe, which features a parade of thousands of colourful, lighted paper lanterns shaped like lotus blossoms and placed in Seoul temples and streets. Hence, statement 1 is not correct.
— In Cambodia, novice monks in saffron robes joined seniors seeking alms. Devotees gathered around the sacred banyan tree in Myanmar to water it.
— In India, as in many other Asian countries, Buddha’s birthday, also known as Buddha Purnima, is celebrated as a national holiday.
— Tibetan Buddhist monks sat crossed-legged on the floor of the Tibetan government-in-exile’s headquarters in Dharamshala, northern India, singing prayers as devotees lined up to worship.
— In Ipoh, Malaysia, devotees revealed a massive sacred “Thangka” canvas measuring 60 metres (197 feet) by 12 metres (39 feet) as they passed beneath it to receive blessings and refresh their spirits and minds. Hence, statement 2 is not correct.
