Google Assistant is the default personal virtual assistant on Android smartphones, which is known for its capabilities and ease of use. However, if you are a Nothing Phone user and looking for a new generative AI-powered virtual assistant, you can now quickly configure it. ChatGPT at your fingertips can be a great assistant that offers answers to any questions under the Sun.
It is important to note that, unlike Google Assistant, you won’t be able to set an alarm or call someone from your contact list. Instead, ChatGPT offers insightful information on almost anything. However, the chatbot still cannot access real-time data. Hence, some of the responses generated by ChatGPT could be inaccurate.
For this feature to work, you need to sign up for the beta programme of ChatGPT on Google Play Store, which lets users add the ChatGPT quick settings shortcut as a widget on the home screen, and it works on both Nothing Phone (1) and Nothing Phone (2) (review), running on Nothing OS 2.0 or newer version based on Android 13 or Android 14.
To add the ChatGPT shortcut to Nothing Phone’s home screen, one should be a beta tester of ChatGPT (the widget shortcut is currently limited to the beta version). Once the ChatGPT app is installed on the Nothing Phone, open the app, and configure it by following the on-screen instructions. If you are a ChatGPT Plus subscriber, you can also log in using the same.
Once done, long press on the home screen and select “widgets” > “quick settings” and long press on one of three quick settings icons (available in various sizes), and add it to the home screen, from the next menu select ChatGPT as the quick settings widget to add a button that gives quick access to ChatGPT’s voice chat without opening the actual app.
You can now simply tap on the ChatGPT widget on your Nothing Phone to summon the ChatGPT voice search option. All the voice chat conversations are automatically transcribed and stored within the ChatGPT app for later access.
