OnePlus 12 to Vivo X100 Pro: 5 new smartphones to keep an eye on in early 2024

Perhaps the biggest smartphone launch of the first half of 2024 has to be the debut of the OnePlus 12. The brand has already confirmed the event for January 23, during which more information about the price and availability will be released. Based on the information we’ve gathered, the OnePlus 12 may look a lot like its predecessor, but it’s on the inside where things differ. It will boast the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, an improved display, better cameras, and enhanced battery life. Expect the OnePlus 12’s price in India to be over Rs 60,000. Alongside the OnePlus 12, the brand is also introducing a slightly more affordable model, the OnePlus 12R.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung is rumoured to launch its next-generation flagship Galaxy S24 series of smartphones in January. The competition is getting tough in the high-end smartphone segment, and the early launch of the Galaxy S24 indicates Samsung is under pressure. However, Samsung’s Galaxy S series flagship will likely to generate a lot of buzz. Details are still scarce, but one would expect the phones (said to be available in multiple flavours including the top-end Galaxy S24 Ultra) will feature the best possible features and specifications among high-end smartphones. The Galaxy S24 series is also expected to include several generative AI capabilities such as real-time call translation, wallpaper generator, and, more.

Vivo X100 Pro

Vivo is closely eyeing the high-end smartphone market, and the X100 series is its answer to the forthcoming premium-tier phones. The X100 Pro is already available in China, and it appears to be a fairly powerful smartphone. Based on previous X series smartphones, the new X100 Pro is expected to be a camera-centric device powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 processor.

Redmi Note 13 Pro+

Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of the all-new Redmi Note 13 Pro+ in India on January 4, marking the first smartphone in the country with the upgraded MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra processor. This will be the initial smartphone in the Redmi Note series to feature a curved display, and it is also the first phone from the company in the mid-range segment with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

Asus ROG Phone 8

If you are a gamer, then the ROG Phone 8 might be of interest, as it is confirmed to launch on January 9. The upcoming gaming phone is set to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which also powers other upcoming smartphones like the OnePlus 12 and the recently launched iQOO 12.

The ROG Phone 8 is expected to offer a higher screen-to-body ratio with a punch-hole cutout. The display is anticipated to have a higher 165 Hz refresh rate, similar to the previous generation ROG phones. The smartphone also features a new camera island and an RGB backlight on the ROG logo. It is also expected to include dual USB-C ports, one for charging and one for connecting accessories like the ROG AeroActive cooler.
