Mobile World Congress 2025 Live Updates: The Mobile World Congress, the world’s biggest mobile industry trade show, is underway at Barcelona, Spain, with tech and telecom companies gearing up to launch new smartphones, AI hardware, and concept devices.
The fair is attended by most major tech companies, including Samsung, Google, Qualcomm, LG, Sony, AMD, Meta, Nvidia, and Lenovo, as well as telecom giants, gear providers, satellite telco companies, and, in recent years, automakers—alongside thousands of other exhibitors.

RedMagic to show off $1,499 phone with gold and silver elements
The limited edition RedMagic 10 Pro Gold Saga phone will be on display at the MWC 2025. Crafted in gold with a silver and gold-plated cooling system, carbon fiber elements, and a sapphire glass rear cover, the phone will reportedly be available for pre-order at $1,499 from March 31 onwards.

Nothing unveils Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro
Nothing announced its latest smartphones — the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro — at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 that is underway in Barcelona, Spain.
The Phone (3a), with a starting price of Rs 24,999 for the Indian-exclusive 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant, appears to be an improved version of the Phone (2a).
Meanwhile, the Pro model starts at Rs 29,999 and also includes an Indian-exclusive 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant with a flat Rs 2,000 bank discount on both models and will be available for purchase starting March 11.

Meta and Internet Society launch new initiative
Meta has expanded its partnership with non-profit Internet Society and announced a new Connectivity Co-Funding Initiative that is aimed at scaling up efforts to expand affordable, reliable, and sustainable Internet access globally.
Both the Internet Society and Internet Society Foundation have committed a $30 million investment through 2030 as part of the initiative, which will focus on community-centered infrastructure development, addressing market gaps and advocacy, and providing training to build technical capacity
"Over the past several years, our partnership with Meta has resulted in 56 IXPs in 45 countries, giving millions of people faster, more affordable, and reliable Internet access," said Sally Wentworth, president and CEO of the Internet Society.
"This new Connectivity Co-Funding initiative, supported by Meta, is a prime example of collective action that will help provide meaningful access to more than 2 billion people across the world with insufficient or no Internet. It is our hope that this fund plays a pivotal role in reducing this gap and creating a more equitable digital society,” she added.

Realme introduces Interchangeable Lens Concept
Realme showcased its latest concept smartphone, the Interchangeable Lens Concept, at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2025. It is a device featuring a 1-inch-type sensor with a mirrorless-camera-like lens mount system. Like most mirrorless and DSLR cameras, the Realme Interchangeable Lens Concept supports lenses of various focal lengths, allowing users to adjust the camera’s performance as needed—just like a professional camera. Oppo lays out new AI strategy at MWC 2025
On Day 2 of MWC 2025, Oppo announced that it is working with Google to ensure that its Gemini chatbot can soon take action across native OPPO apps, such as Notes, Calendar, and Clock.
These new capabilities will work alongside existing support for Gemini 1.5 Pro and Gemini 1.5 Flash, the smartphone maker said.
Oppo also revealed that it is implementing Private Computing Cloud (PCC) built with Confidential Computing from Google Cloud. “Starting from AI Recording Summary, AI features including AI Search, AI Studio, AI Call Summary will be integrated with OPPO Private Computing Cloud this year,” the company said in a press release.
The company’s enhanced AI strategy also includes offering users an average of one new AI update per month.

Perplexity, Deutsche Telekom to build ‘app-less’ AI phone
Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile, has announced that it is developing an ‘AI phone’ that will be integrated with Perplexity’s AI chatbot. The new device is expected to be unveiled in the second half of 2025.
Users will reportedly have access to a suite of AI tools including Perplexity Assistant, Google Cloud AI, ElevenLabs, Picsart, and others. The device that was first teased at MWC 2024 will be primarily controlled by voice and can be used to book flights and make restaurant reservations.
The telecom major also said that it will be integrating Perplexity’s AI-powered search engine as well as AI features from Google Cloud AI, ElevenLabs, and Picsart into its MeinMagenta app, which can be downloaded and used on other devices.

World’s slimmest smartphone debuts at MWC 2025
Chinese smartphone maker Tecno Mobile has introduced a new smartphone that is just 5.75mm in width. The Tecno Spark Slim concept phone is reportedly thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy Edge.
The device has been fabricated using recycled aluminum and a stainless steel unibody, with a reflective design.

Opera unveils new AI web browsing agent
Norwegian browser company Opera has announced a native AI agent called Browser Operator that is capable of browsing the web on behalf of users.
Opera previewed Browser Operator on Day 2 of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Users can, for instance, ask Browser Operator to buy them a pack of 10 pairs of white tennis socks from Nike in a size 12.
“While working on completing a task, Browser Operator lets users see what's going on at any point in the process as well as what steps it took to complete it,” Opera said, adding that users can take over or cancel the task at any moment. As per the company, Browser Operator is integrated within the browser itself, and doesn’t require a virtual machine or a server in the cloud.

Vodafone, IBM join hands to work on quantum-safe cryptography
Vodafone and IBM are coming together to protect customers’ data from future risks related to quantum computers. The two companies announced that they have come up with a new proof of concept on how IBM Quantum Safe technology can aid Vodafone’s digital security service called Secure Net.
In a new feasibility test, Vodafone integrated IBM’s new post-quantum cryptography standards with its existing encryption methods on Secure Net.
The telecom major became one of the first companies to successfully test IBM Quantum Safe technology, as per a press release. “While this risk may still be years away, cybercriminals are using “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks to harvest and store data for later decryption,” it said.

Google’s Gemini Live feature to go live in coming weeks
Kicking off its Gemini showcase on Day 1 of MWC 2025, Google said that a previously announced AI feature that allows users to ask Gemini questions about what they’re looking at in real-time, will become available to Gemini Advanced subscribers in the next few weeks, according to a report by CNET.
The live video and screen sharing feature will be accessible within Gemini Live, as per the report.

HP teases new Intel Xeon 6 Core server, T-Mobile partnership
On Day One of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, HP introduced a number of new products and announced key partnerships to accelerate innovation in networking.
- The new HPE Aruba Networking CX 8325P network switch, capable of precision timing which is critical for AI workloads and private 5G experiences
- Sneak peek of next-generation server based on Intel’s powerful new Xeon 6 Granite Rapids-D chipset named HPE ProLiant Compute DL110.
- Partnership with T-Mobile to introduce “an advanced subscription solution that combines the T-Mobile Connected Workspace Program with HPE Networking Instant On Switch Series 1830 and HPE Networking Instant On Access Point AP21.”
“HPE will also provide insight on how customers can prepare their data centers for the demands of AI with the latest turnkey private cloud solutions for AI, discover the power of HPE’s latest servers optimized for telco networks, and generate new revenue through exceptional user experiences with AI-powered campus and branch networking,” the company said in a statement ahead of MWC 2025.

Tecno launches new smart glasses with in-built AI assistant
Tecno has released two pairs of AI-powered smart glasses called Tecno AI Glasses and Tecno AI Glasses Pro. The company claims that they are as light as sunglasses and offer several artificial intelligence-powered features.
On Monday, Qualcomm unveiled a new sub-brand—Dragonwing—aimed at providing enterprise solutions.
“The name Dragonwing and its stylised dragon icon symbolize ascension, power, and acceleration. The brand’s colour palette includes an influential purple, which fuses Qualcomm’s innovative blue and Snapdragon’s bold red. Together, Dragonwing and Snapdragon create a strong, purpose-built portfolio, strengthening our leadership in both consumer and industrial segments,” said Don McGuire, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, Qualcomm Technologies, in a press statement.

Xiaomi unveils new prototype with modular camera lens
Ahead of the mobile trade show in Barcelona, Xiaomi has unveiled a new prototype camera lens. The prototype kit known as Xiaomi Modular Optical System comprises a Xiaomi 15 phone that is equipped with a magnetic pogo pin on the back for users to attach the camera lens.
The pogo pin developed by Xiaomi has been named ‘LaserLink’ and is capable of up to 10Gbps data transmission. The 100-megapixel optical lens reportedly has an aperture between f/1.4 to f/11 and a 4/3-inch sensor that is double the size of the 1-inch type sensors in top smartphones.

Honor debuts new UI agent powered by Gemini 2: Report
Honor has launched a new GUI-based mobile AI agent that is designed to carry out various tasks on a user’s behalf by accessing the web. It has been trained to understand the semantic elements of a website’s user interface design and carries out a multi-step process to execute a user request, according to a report by Wired.
The Chinese electronics giant also announced a 10 billion Honor Alpha Plan that lays out specific goals for Honor such as “creating an intelligent phone" and “open human potential boundaries and co-create a new paradigm for civilization”.

Private 5G networks exposed to vulnerabilities: CTOne report
Only 20% of global organisations have a dedicated communications technology (CT) team to manage and secure their communications networks, according to a new report released by global cybersecurity firm CTOne and Trend Micro.
The report surveyed around 800 executives from companies that use private 5G networks across the US, UK, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. It found that the responsibility for CT security falls to the CTO (43%) or CIO (32%).

Tecno to unveil it's thinnest smartphone at MWC 2025
Tecno to unveil the SPARK Slim, dubbed as the world's thinnest smartphone with a 5,200 mAh battery at the MWC 2025. Measuring 5.75mm, the upcoming Tecno smartphone is likely to be thinner than Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge.
The Tecno SPARK Slim has been confirmed to pack a large 5,200 mAh battery along with a 6.78-inch 3D Curved AMOLED display. The smartphone is also confirmed to include a 50 MP dual-camera setup and a 13 MP selfie camera at the front. To put it into context, the Tecno SPARK Slim will be thinner than a pencil and will be powered by an unknown octa-core processor.
