Microsoft has launched two new Surface laptops that feature a dedicated “Copilot” button for quick access to its chatbot assistant. The Surface Pro 10 for Business and Surface Laptop 6 for Business are designed to showcase the convenience of having generative AI just a keystroke away.
These new “AI PCs” sport the familiar Surface designs but now come equipped with Intel’s latest Core Ultra processors, which boast a specialised neural processing unit (NPU) for accelerating AI workloads. While Surface devices have included NPUs since 2019, the addition of the Copilot button represents a significant shift in how users will interact with their computers.
Located to the left of the arrow keys, the Copilot button allows users to summon Microsoft’s AI assistant in a sidebar on the right side of the screen. This positioning of the AI alongside the user’s workspace aims to enhance productivity and efficiency by providing context-aware assistance on demand.
Microsoft is positioning the Surface Pro 10 for Business as its “most powerful Surface Pro ever,” thanks to the Intel Core Ultra processors and the option for 5G connectivity on Intel’s platform. The company touts the device’s versatility, positioning it as a capable tablet for frontline workers and a powerful laptop for office settings.
Meanwhile, the Surface Laptop 6 for Business is billed as the “ultimate laptop built for business.” It features improved thermal capacity to maximise performance from the Intel Core Ultra H-Series processors, promising uncompromised productivity for demanding workloads.
Both devices are aimed squarely at enterprise customers, as indicated by their “for Business” monikers. They will be available exclusively through Microsoft’s website and commercial resellers, with prices starting at $1,199 (~Rs 1 lakh) and configurable up to 64GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
The introduction of these AI-focused Surface PCs comes just weeks after Apple unveiled its latest M3-powered MacBook Air laptops with an upgraded Neural Engine for accelerating machine learning tasks.
