Google recently announced that it is adding a bunch of new features to NotebookLM, its AI-powered note taking app that can summarise, explain and generate content from your documents.
In a blog post, the tech giant said that Gemini 1.5 Pro powered NotebookLM can now be used to get summaries of YouTube videos and audio files. Google says users have been using the “new source types” to get key summaries of key concepts and explore a video using the inline citations linked to a video’s transcript. As for audio recordings, NotebookLM can now be used to find specific information and eliminate the need to listen to long audio files.
Google’s AI-powered note taking tool can also be used to analyse and turn class recordings, handwritten notes and lecture slides into “comprehensive study guides” for easy access.
To summarise a YouTube video or analyse an audio file, simply open NotebookLM from your preferred browser and create a new notebook.
Now, you will get the option to either upload an audio file or paste a public YouTube video link. Once done, click on the Generate an Audio Overview button and wait for anywhere between a few seconds to a minute or two. Users also have the option to share the AI generated Audio Overview with others with a single tap.
Earlier this month, Google introduced Audio Overview, a feature that lets users turn their research notes into an AI-generated podcast. Now, the tech giant is adding a “share” button that generates a public link, allowing users to quickly share the podcast with others.
While some may think of NotebookLM as an AI chatbot, the tool cannot browse the internet for information. Instead, it uses your documents to train itself. Another difference between the two is that unlike AI chatbots like Gemini, which can talk to you in a natural way, NotebookLM is primarily focused on summarising or explaining information.
