Apple recently launched Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad, enabling video and music creators to enhance their productivity on the go. Both apps have been optimized to make use of the multi-touch capabilities on the iPad and will be available on the Apple App Store as subscription-based services on May 23.
The iPad version of Final Cut Pro comes with a new touch interface like a jog wheel that makes the entire video editing process more intuitive and faster. You can also make use of the Magnetic Timeline to move clips and make frame-accurate edits with a single tap.
The Live Drawing feature enables users to draw and write directly on top of video content using the Apple Pencil. For those owning an iPad Pro with M2, the Apple Pencil hover feature can be used to quickly skin and preview footage without touching the screen, whereas, the Reference Mode comes in handy if you want to apple colour grades with accuracy. The app is also compatible with the Magic Keyboard of Smart Keyboard Folio.
Video creators will be able to use the Pro Camera Mode to shoot high-quality videos in portrait or landscape, monitor audio, see available recording time and control parameters like focus, white balance and exposure. And with Multicam Video Editing, users can easily synchronize and edit clips, with users able to switch angles in just one click.
The Scene Removal Mask tool lets creators replace or completely remove the background without having to use a green screen. Final Cut Pro users can also make use of the Auto Crop feature to adjust their footage to the aspect ratio they want to use and remove the background noise using the Voice Isolation utility.
If you are looking for effects and audio, the app has a vast library of graphics that includes customisable animated patterns and professional soundtracks that adjust to the length of the video and HDR backgrounds.
Apple has optimized Logic Pro to make use of the device’s multi-touch capabilities. Using gestures, music creators can play software instruments, navigate complex projects and swipe to scroll. For shaping sounds, it has Plug-in Tiles that help you just do that. Like Final Cut Pro, the app also supports Apple Pencil gestures and key commands for those using a Magic Keyboard or Smart Keyboard Folio.
The Sound Browser is a library filled with audio patches, instrument patches, plug-in presets, samples and loops. Using Quick Sampler, producers can chop or transform audio samples into playable instruments, while the Step Sequencer lets users program basslines, drum patterns and melodies. It even has a feature-packed mixer – complete with volume faders, channel strips, pan controls and plug-ins.
Apple is offering a one-month free trial for both Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro on the iPad. Both apps allow users to import or export their projects to and from Mac. While Final Cut Pro can be used on iPad models with an M1 chip or later, Logic Pro requires A12 Bionic or later. The apps will be available on the App Store on May 23 and cost Rs 499 per month or Rs 4,999 per year.
