As the iPhone 15 series launch date draws near, we are gaining more information about the upcoming iPhones. Among the lineup, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will take centre stage with their significant redesign and enhanced functionality. Here’s a compilation of everything we know so far about the upcoming “Pro” iPhones. It is to be noted that all the below information is compiled from leaked information that surfaced on various platforms. Apple, as always, is tight-lipped about the forthcoming generation of its smartphones.
iPhone 15 Pro series will get a major design overhaul with a slightly curved frame, made out of titanium. The new design is said to be inspired by Apple Watch Ultra, and the use of titanium instead of stainless steel is said to enhance sturdiness while reducing the weight of the device. Apple is also reported to have replaced the mute switch with an action button, again, inspired by the Apple Watch Ultra.
The iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are said to feature an MFi-certified USB Type-C port with faster USB 3.2 data transfer speed along with Thunderbolt support. This change in the design means the cases and accessories from the previous generation iPhones will not be compatible with the iPhone 15 series.
In terms of processing power, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are said to be powered by the A17 Bionic processor with 8 GB RAM. According to a post from @URedditor on Twitter, the processor will be fabbed using a 3nm process and will consist of six CPU cores with up to 3.7 GHz clock speed and six GPU cores. According to a report by yeux1122 on Naver, the iPhone 15 Pro could be the first smartphone from Apple to offer up to 2TB of internal storage. With the new chip, iPhone 15 Pro will also gain functionalities like Wi-Fi 6E, enhanced 5G networking, and a more efficient ultra-wideband chip.
The iPhone 15 Pro is said to feature a 6.1-inch screen and the iPhone 15 Pro Max will include a 6.7-inch screen. Both will be manufactured using a new LIPO or ‘low-injection pressure overmolding’ to further reduce the bezel size to 1.55mm, making it the thinnest bezel display on any phone, suggests a report from Bloomberg.
The camera is another department that is said to receive a major upgrade. According to @URedditor, Apple will introduce a periscope zoom lens on the more premium iPhone 15 Pro Max with the ability to offer 5x/6x optical zoom. However, the iPhone 15 Pro is said to make use of the same 3x telephoto lens, similar to the one on the iPhone 14 Pro.
A report from MacRumors suggests that Apple is also expected to introduce new colour options, where the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are said to come in dark blue and dark red colour options.
iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max might feature slightly larger batteries, suggest an IT Home report. It is said that the iPhone 15 Pro might include a 3,650 mAh battery while the bigger iPhone 15 Pro Max might get an even larger 4,852 mAh battery, both supporting fast charging with an MFi-certified cable and these phones are also expected to introduce second-gen MagSafe wireless charging.
All these changes are also said to come at a cost, where, Tim Long an analyst at Barclays suggests, owing to the higher cost of manufacturing, the base model of the iPhone 15 Pro will get a price hike of $100 and will cost $1,099 while the iPhone 15 Pro Max is also said to get a price hike of $100 and cost $1,299 in the US.
