Google Play Music store has gone live for users across India on Android. Google Music subscription service was launched in 2011, but it has taken a while for it come to India. Google has not yet officially announced the launch of the Music Play Store in India, and for now it doesn’t look like the monthly subscription has gone live yet.
Songs are starting at Rs 15, and some are available for free download as well, but there’s no monthly subscription which gives access to the entire library. There’s quite a collection of Bollywood music as well, though we’ve not had a chance to explore the entire Store.
Google Play Music with unlimited downloading and streaming service is available for $9.99 in the US per month. There’s also a family plan. Google Play Music Store has gone live on the web and Android in India. The Music catalogue has 35 million songs. Earlier this year screenshots of the service for India were spotted on Reddit.
Google Play Music enters a fairly competitive space in India. There are several music streaming services like Saavn, Hungama, Wynk and Apple Music already available in India. Apple Music starts at Rs 120 per month for users, and Rs 190 for the family plan.

In case of Saavn, the Pro plan costs Rs 99 per month or Rs 999 per year for unlimited downloads on up to five devices. There’s also the free segment which lets users listen to free music on the site, but no downloads.
Gaana also lets users listen to music for free, but has paid plans starting at Rs 297 (three months), Rs 549 (six months) and Rs 999 per year. All plans offer unlimited downloads, high-definition streaming quality and no ads.
