Sony has officially announced Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact smartphones at IFA 2016 in Berlin today. The smartphones follow on the new Xperia X series with focus on metal design and top of the line digital imaging.
With Xperia XZ, Sony is aiming its digital image sensor prowess to a whole new level. Sony Xperia XZ comes with a brand new triple imaging sensors and five axis image stabilisation. Sony Xperia XZ comes with same 23MP image sensor found on the Xperia Z flagship but combines it with an RGBC-IR sensor and laser autofocus. Sony’s Furumi-san, EVP of Global Sales and Marketing, says Xperia XZ’s new imaging technology will enable better white balance and enhances the images.
Sony Xperia XZ comes with hardware specifications we have come to expect from the latest Android flagship. Sony Xperia XZ is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor coupled with 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable. The smartphone’s 5.2-inch Full HD display, however, makes it fall behind the curve.
For Sony, Xperia XZ is not just a smartphone but the smartphone that can turn into a great camera. Sony’s digital image sensor business is doing extremely well and Xperia XZ will sit on top as flagship technology showcase. Sony Xperia XZ also features predictive hybrid AF first announced with Xperia X for capturing fast-moving objects. Sony has also improved the front camera with a new 13MP image sensor that can extend its ISO range to 6400. Sony says with that setting, Xperia XZ can capture stunning selfie even in extremely dark environment.
Sony Xperia XZ features USB-C port and the device will be available from October. The Sony Xperia XZ should make its way to India soon after global availability.
