OnePlus 12 vs iQOO 12: The battle of premium flagships
The recently launched OnePlus 12 packs the same chipset and periscope telephoto lens as the iQOO 12, but is it worth the extra Rs 11,000? Here's a detailed comparison between the two that might help you decide between the two.

Flagship smartphones have been getting more and more expensive every year. The latest one to follow the trend is OnePlus 12, which costs approximately Rs 10,000 more than its predecessor. However, some phones like the iQOO 12 try to offer flagship hardware at a much lower price. If you are confused between the OnePlus 12 and iQOO 12, here’s a detailed comparison that might help you decide between the two.
Design
The OnePlus 12 has a marble-like finish and has a pretty good grip. While the phone maker has retained its predecessor’s huge camera island design, the new phone comes with a glass that protects the camera lenses.

The iQOO 12 takes a slightly different approach with a squircle (squarish circle) camera island and a satin-like glass back that might feel slippery. These devices offer some level of water resistance, but neither offers IP68 protection, meaning you won’t be able to take them underwater.
While the OnePlus 12 weighs 220 grams, the iQOO 12 is on the lighter side, weighing just 198 grams. This means that the iQOO 12 will be more comfortable to hold if you want to watch a movie or play games for a few hours.

Display
Another difference between the OnePlus 12 and the iQOO 12 is the display. OnePlus’ latest flagship has a slightly bigger 6.82-inch AMOLED screen with a peak brightness of 4,500 nits whereas the iQOO’s latest phone packs a standard 6.72-inch AMOLED screen that can go up to 3,000 nits.
However, under direct sunlight, the OnePlus 12 with its 1,600 nits brightness might offer the same level of visibility as the iQOO 12, which can go up to 1,400 nits. Another area where the OnePlus 12 beats the iQOO 12 is screen resolution, with the former opting for a slightly higher QHD+ resolution while the latter has a 1.5K panel. Once again, in the real world, the difference might not be noticeable unless you are pixel-peeping.
Performance and Software
Both devices are powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and offer up to 16GB RAM. On the performance front, both devices perform similarly, but there may be some differences in benchmarks due to software optimisations. However, when playing games or doing resource-intensive tasks, you will barely encounter any hiccups or stutters since they use Qualcomm’s most powerful chipset to date.

The software is where the OnePlus 12 and iQOO 12 differ significantly. While both phones come with Android 14 out of the box, the former runs on OxygenOS 14 while the latter comes with FunTouchOS 14. Also, you won’t see any bloatware on the OnePlus device while the iQOO phone comes with a handful of pre-installed apps, which might annoy some.
Another area where the OnePlus 12 takes the lead is software updates. OnePlus promises 4 years of OS updates and security patches but iQOO said its latest flagship will only get 3 years of OS updates and 4 security patches, which might be a bummer if you are planning to use the phone for the next few years.

Camera
The newly launched OnePlus 12 has an upgraded triple camera setup that consists of a 50MP Sony LYT-808 sensor, a 64MP 3x periscope telephoto lens and a 48MP ultrawide camera. The iQOO 12 has the same 64MP 3x periscope telephoto lens but packs a 50MP Omnivision primary camera alongside a 50MP Samsung JN1 ultrawide sensor.
Comparing the primary sensor, the OnePlus 12 with its new Sony sensor will take better photos compared to the iQOO 12, but since both phones use the same periscope telephoto sensor, the image quality might be pretty similar.

As for the selfie shooters, the OnePlus 12 packs a 32MP sensor on the front compared to the iQOO 12’s 16MP camera, giving the former a clear edge when it comes to video conferencing or taking selfies.
Battery
Once again, the OnePlus 12 with its 5,400mAh battery takes the lead when it comes to battery. But this does not mean that the iQOO 12 with its 5,000mAh battery is bad. The OnePlus phone will last a bit longer compared to the latter, but the iQOO 12 has a slightly faster charging speed (120W) compared to the OnePlus’ 100W charging. The OnePlus 12 also supports 50W wireless charging which the iQOO 12 misses out on.
Price
The OnePlus 12 starts from Rs 64,999 for the base variant, which comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage starts from Rs 64,999, making it the company’s most expensive candybar phone to date. The base model of the iQOO 12 has the same configuration but can be purchased at a much lower price of Rs 52,999.
OnePlus 12 vs iQOO 12: Which one should you go with?
If you want a flagship phone that performs on almost all fronts, be it raw power, camera or software experience, the OnePlus 12 is the way to go. However, those looking for a more affordable flagship device that offers great value for money, and don’t mind one less Android update and a slightly less capable camera system can go with the iQOO 12.
