Nintendo has confirmed that it will host a Direct showcase on August 31 offering an in-depth look at the company’s upcoming game – Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
The news comes a few weeks after Nintendo confirmed to Polygon that Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario for 25 years will be stepping away and no longer voicing the character and instead become the company’s ‘Mario Ambassador.’ Nintendo also said that Martinet and CEO Shigeru Miyamoto will be sharing a special message.
The upcoming 2D side-scrolling adventure game will be live-streamed on Nintendo Direct for roughly 15 minutes on Nintendo Direct, which will commence on August 31 at 7:30 PM IST.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 20 this year and features several playable characters like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, Princess Daisy and Yoshi. The company says the upcoming 2D title will introduce a new power-up for Mario that transforms him into ‘Elephant Mario.’
‘When you touch a Wonder Flower in the game, the wonders of the world unlock — pipes could come alive, hordes of enemies may appear, characters might change their looks, for example — transforming the gameplay in unpredictable ways’, the company said in a press release.
To give you a quick recap, Nintendo announced Super Mario Bros. Wonder earlier in June this year and is the first Mario-themed game of the year, the last one being Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which was launched in 2021.
Apart from Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Nintendo is bringing a handful of new games to the Switch this year, some of which include Detective Pikachu Returns, a remake of the SNES Super Mario RPG and a DLC for Pokemon.
