On Thursday, Lenovo introduced its first Windows-based handheld gaming console––the Legion Go––in India. It will be available for purchase for Rs 89,990 from July 1 on platforms like Flipkart.

Lenovo, with the Legion Go, has taken a Nintendo-like approach by incorporating detachable controllers. This distinguishes it from popular products such as the Asus ROG Ally and MSI Claw A1M.

Powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), the Legion Go features an eight-core CPU with a clock speed of up to 5.1GHz and a 12-core graphics unit based on the latest RDNA 3 architecture, with a power envelope of up to 30W. It comes with non-user upgradable 16 GB of LPPDDR5x 7500MHz RAM and 512 GB of storage using a standard M.2 2242 SSD for potential future upgrades.

The Legion Go packs a large 8.8-inch QHD+ resolution 144Hz refresh rate display with touch support, with up to 500 nits of peak brightness with 97 per cent DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage. Users can further tune the visual experience via the Legion Space.

The standout feature of this handheld is its controllers, crafted with Hall Effect joysticks that are frictionless and immune to wear and tear, unlike potentiometer joysticks. They claim to eliminate common issues such as stick drift and dead zones.

These controllers can be detached with a simple button press and used in a first-person-shooter (FPS) mode by mounting them onto a controller base. They operate on their own batteries, offering hours of gameplay.

The console’s battery life varies depending on its mode: a quiet mode for maximum battery longevity, a balanced mode that balances performance and battery life, and a performance mode that requires wall power. Additionally, a custom mode allows users to tailor performance settings to their preferences. The device supports fast charging, reaching 30% in 10 minutes and fully charging in 80 minutes.
