Samsung has confirmed the list of smartphones that will soon gain Galaxy AI features, which were originally introduced on the Galaxy S24 series of smartphones. The company will release the OneUI 6.1 software update for the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip5, Galaxy Z Fold5, and the Galaxy Tab S9 series by the end of March 2024 to enable various AI-backed features.
“Our goal with Galaxy AI is not only to pioneer a new era of mobile AI but also to empower users by making AI more accessible,” said TM Roh, President, and Head of Mobile Experience Business at Samsung Electronics. The company has also confirmed that the Galaxy AI features will be available for over 100 million users by the end of 2024, and the company will offer these features free of cost until 2025.
Samsung has also highlighted that some AI features from the Galaxy S24 series may not be available on previous-generation models. It has been confirmed that features like Chat Assist, Live Translate, Circle to Search with Google, Note Assist, Browsing Assist, Generative Edit, Edit Suggestion, and Instant Slow-mo features will be available on the previous generation’s flagship smartphones. Lastly, the wallpaper generator feature will also be coming to the aforementioned Samsung devices. However, the Instant Slow-mo feature will not be coming to the Galaxy S23 FE (review).
To use some of these features, one needs to log in using a Samsung account and also requires an active internet connection. To use services like Chat Assist and Browsing Assist, one needs to use the Samsung keyboard and web browser, as these services are not compatible with third-party apps. When an image is edited using Generative Edit, Samsung will add a visual watermark, and these AI-edited images will have up to a 12 MP resolution.
