ChatGPT is finally getting the much anticipated Advanced Voice Mode, which enables a “more conversational and natural interaction.” Powered by GPT-4, the new voice mode can pick up on non-verbal cues and respond with emotion.
In a blog post, OpenAI said that the Advanced Voice Mode will initially be available to ChatGPT Plus and Teams subscribers, while Enterprise and Edu users will be getting it sometime next week. Instead of the animated black dots, OpenAI showcased at its event earlier this year in May, the Advanced Voice Mode will be shown as a blue animated sphere.

Apart from the new conversational voice mode, ChatGPT is also getting 5 new voices – Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce and Vale, bringing the total number of voices available to nine. However, the controversial Sky voice, which sounded a lot like Scarlett Johansson is still missing.
How to access ChatGPT’s new Advanced Voice Mode?
To use the new voice mode, launch the ChatGPT app on your device and start a voice conversation by tapping the “voice” icon on the bottom right corner of the screen.
Doing so will open a new window with a blue orb in the middle. However, an OpenAI support document suggests that your use of Advanced Voice Mode is limited every day and that the daily limits might change. The company says users “will be notified when they have 15 minutes left of advanced voice for the day.”
If you see a black orb, the new Advanced Voice Mode is not available for you and it might take some time for it to show up on your account. Last week, OpenAI started rolling out o1-mini support for free users.
