Baron Corbin won the United States Title without even pinning the former champion in a Triple Threat match at the WWE Hell in a Cell PPV on Sunday night. Clearly a bitter pill to swallow for former champion AJ Styles, he activated the rematch clause and challenged Corbin to a showdown in the last match on WWE Smackdown Live at Grand Rapids in Michigan on Tuesday night.
The duo clashed in a well-contested match which produced numerous highlight reel moments including when Styles sent Corbin soaring across the announcer’s desk with a dynamic dropkick. As the match grew intense, Styles leapt off the ring apron at Corbin, who countered the move by sending Styles shoulder-first onto the ground. This clearly left Styles in a terrible shape and created an opening for Corbin to get his opponent back into the ring and finish him off with the punishing End of Days for the victory.
