Sara Tendulkar has become a franchise owner in the Global e-Cricket Premier League (GEPL). Sara, the daughter of legendary India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, has bought the Mumbai franchise of GEPL ahead of the second season. GEPL is an e-cricket and entertainment league which features the made-in-India, simulation-based cricket game called Real Cricket.
In its first season, the tournament attracted over 2,00,000 registrations with the top 64 players selected for the eight teams. The league also counts entrepreneurs like Zerodha’s Nikhil Kamath, Accel’s Prashant Prakash and LensKart’s Peyush Bansal as franchise owners.
“Cricket has been an integral part of our family. Exploring its potential in e-sports is thrilling. Owning the Mumbai franchise in GEPL is a dream come true, merging my passion for the game with my love for the city. I’m eager to collaborate with our talented team to build a beloved e-sports franchise that inspires and entertains,” said Sara, who has majored in biomedical sciences besides completing her Masters in Clinical and Public Health Nutrition at University College London.
Since December last year, Sara has also worked as a director at the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation. The foundation, established in 2019 by Sachin Tendulkar and his wife, Dr Anjali Tendulkar, focuses on improving the lives of children across India. The foundation has a special focus on children born with cleft lip and palate impairments.
After the first season, GEPL Season 2 will see an expanded team format. The final of the event will be held in May 2025. The league’s content is streamed on JioCinema and Sports18.
