Can Ranchi produce a tennis player at par with cricketer M S Dhoni?
Tennis star Sania Mirza believes that the day is not far when Ranchi would also give a top-class tennis star to the country.
“I will pray that a tennis player should emerge from Ranchi as M S Dhoni emerged for cricket,” tennis player Sania Mirza said at an inaugural ceremony of a tennis academy here on Thursday.
“I have heard a lot of Ranchi and I had a wish to see the town; and I grabbed the opportunity when I was invited for the inauguration of the tennis academy,” she added.
Sania expressed hope that the academy,which will train fifty budding talents to start with,would throw up good tennis players.
“I am looking forward to coming back to Ranchi to play (tennis tournaments),” Sania said.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda assured that the state government would support budding talents to promote tennis in the state.
“We will encourage all sports,including tennis,” Munda added.
