With the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, Ashes and the ODI World Cup around the corner, this is a big year for the Australian cricket team, and it is Cameron Green, who they are going to rely a lot on, be it with the bat or ball. Green, tipped as a “once in a generation” cricketer, will have a big role to play for Australia in the next six months.
Green’s return from the finger injury changed Australia’s fortune and balance in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the all-rounder has already started preparing for the showpiece events.
In a video posted by Mumbai Indians, Green was seen having a big discussion with Sachin Tendulkar. On the eve of their match against Delhi Capitals, Green revealed that Tendulkar was giving him some advice on his bat face.
“Whenever Sachin talks, you listen to him,” he told reporters here.
“He was basically saying that I go with a slightly closed face in red-ball cricket just to keep the ball on the ground. In white-ball cricket, he was telling me that opening the face of my bat potentially allows me to access balls on the off-side. That was basically the conversation I had with him,” he added.

The 23-year-old all-rounder also made it clear that he hasn’t received any instructions from Cricket Australia on workload management and he is feeling good.
“There is no workload management. I have the all clear for the whole tournament. Fortunately, it’s just four overs.
The body is feeling really good at the moment,” he said. “It is a big year. The first step is accepting that and secondly around the Australian team you get energy from people you know; over here there is new energy with new friends I have made.”
Green was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 18.50 crore, making him the most expensive Australian player ever bought at the IPL auction after a dizzying bidding war. The all-rounder has had a sombre outing in the first two games, but he is not worried about his price tag and said he will need little time to adjust.

“Definitely no pressure at all. After the conversations I have had with the support staff and people higher up, there’s no real pressure at all,” he said.
“It’s just about enjoying my cricket. It’s about enjoying the experience of the IPL. Obviously, it is my first time. It might take a little bit of time for me to adjust to it. But there’s no pressure at all.”
Mumbai had lost the first two games, despite looking solid on paper but the youngster is hopeful that the team will turn their season around.
“Pressure-wise, there has been a really clear conversation with the support staff. They are really happy with what’s happened so far. Unfortunately, we haven’t got the wins on the board, but I am sure they will come quickly. I am sure when the wins come, we will get a winning mindset and understand how to win games,” he said.
