Over multiple occasions during his career, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has bamboozled opposition batters with his incredible sense of awareness as to where the stumps are and his ability to affecting the sticks without even having a glance at them.

However, he isn’t the only one featuring in the 2023 Indian Premier League season, who can claim to have a dismissal of such sort up his sleeve.

In Royal Challengers Bangalore’s successful defence of 172 against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, keeper Anuj Rawat picked one out of his hat to send back Ravichandran Ashwin as the hosts collapsed for the third lowest total in IPL history.

As Shimron Hetmyer played one on the off for a single in the eighth over, the Caribbean completed a single with Ashwin at the other end. The latter however, would leave the striker’s end for another but following a yes-no with Hetmyer turned back for his crease.

In the meantime, Rawat would receive a throw from Mohammed Siraj at the boundary and with his back turned towards the stumps, the 23-year-old completed one of the most spectacular run outs of the season.

It was the seventh Rajasthan wicket that fell during the 112-run thumping of Sanju Samson and Co. A win that boosted RCB’s net run rate just enough to pip Royals in the points table for the fifth spot. RCB, who also have 12 points, have a game in their hand as opposed to Rajasthan, who have just the one fixture left in league stage with the same points.
