Rajasthan Royals’ hopes of keeping their IPL 2025 Playoffs chances alive took a massive blow on Thursday when the Riyan Parag-led side slumped to another poor defeat in a chase against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The 11-run defeat was a third successive match where Rajasthan tumbled from a winning position in chases to hand the game over to the opposition. The second defeat to RCB this season meant that Rajasthan have now lost five matches in succession and a total of seven defeats in nine matches, putting them on the brink of elimination.
The five-match losing streak is the longest for the Royals since the 2009-10 seasons.
RR IPL 2025 Playoff qualification scenario
While they are mathematically alive in the race, Rajasthan’s lifeline can extinguish at any moment in the league. With only five matches remaining, it is a non-negotiable that RR will need to win all matches to keep their faint chances alive. Rajasthan can only accumulate a best of 14 points from here. However, that is unlikely to be enough to make the Playoffs this time, with at least six teams in contention to overhaul that mark. Gujarat Titans, RCB and Delhi Capitals need only two wins to cross the 14-point mark from their remaining games, and Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants require three apiece. Kolkata Knight Riders can also target the 16-point mark with four wins in their remaining eight matches, stubbing RR’s chances of qualification further down.
