IPL 2020, CSK vs DC Highlights: Delhi Capitals win by 44 runs

Dhoni departs and well this doesn't affect the game much but it serves as an icing on the cake for Delhi Capitals. A slower and short delivery by Rabada, and Dhoni tries to pull it down the leg, gets a thick edge and Pant dives forward to complete the catch. He departs on 15. Meanwhile, Rabada also strikes in the final ball as Jadeja goes on 12. 

Chennai Super Kings need 49 runs in 6 balls. That's the equation. 

55 from 12 balls, a little more for ask for. Well this is what happens if you bowl in the right areas from the beginning.  

The party may be over for CSK as Kagiso Rabada wraps Du Plessis on 43 from 35 balls. A short of a length delivery, pretty wide from the batsman forcing him to reach for it. In the end, he gets an edge which settles into the hands of the wicketkeeper. CSK: 113/5 (17.2 overs)

The pressure was building and CSK pay the price as Kedhar Jadhav goes after scoring 26 off 21 balls. Wicket number 2 for Anrich Nortje as he traps the batsman LBW but now we see the main man, MS Dhoni make his way to the middle. CSK 101/4 (16)   

Kedhar Jadhav does try to put some pressure on Avesh Khan. He starts off with a boundary and then another one, finally manages to score 13 from his over. But CSK needs more off this. CSK 84/3 (14) | need 92 runs in 36 balls

Meanwhile, Shimron Hetmyer has missed a sitter, that too of Faf du Plessis. Will it eventually hurt him and his side? 

Strageic time-out and then the wicket on the first ball. Ruturaj Gaikwad is the man who has to take the long walk back to the pavilion. An inside edge and Du Plessis was not interested in the single, but Gaikwad was already halfway down the pitch. Du Plessis sends him back but it's too late as Rishabh Pant grabs the ball and throws it towards Axar Patel, who breaks the stumps before Gaikwad could make it. CSK: 47/3 (10 overs)

Two over after powerplay and just seven runs come off it. Delhi are holding the grip in the contest, but with CSK's in-form batsman Faf du Plessis in the middle, we shouldn't count them out yet. CSK: 41/2 (8 overs)

Someone is impressed with Shreyas Iyer's captaincy, and why shouldn't he be.

Final ball of the powerplay and Nortje too gets his name registered on the wicket book. He sends Vijay packing on 10 as CSK reach 34/2 after 6 overs. It was a simple back of a length delivery just outside off and Vijay fails to time it properly as the ball flies straight to Rabada at mid-on. 

Meanwhile the Gabbar from Delhi goes cool. Just look at those shades!

Axar Patel provides Delhi with the first breakthrough as Shane Watson fails to capitalise on the lifeline, he was awarded moments ago. He departs after scoring 14 from 16 balls as CSK are batting on 23/1 after 4.2 overs. 

Started with Kagiso Rabada, then Axar, then Anrich Nortje and now Avesh Khan. Delhi Capitals have already used four different bowlers inside the first four overs. 

Shane Watson survives as Prithvi Shaw fails to hold onto the ball. It was a strong whip by Watson and the ball flies straight to Shaw fielding at square leg,however, lucky for the batsman as the fielder fails to grab it. CSK: 10/0 (3 overs)

An excellent start by Rabada as just two runs come off it. Just maintained a tight length and the pace was uptight. And in a surprise move, Shreyas Iyer has handed the ball to Axar Patel, who joins Rabada from the other end. 

Murli Vijay and Shane Watson have arrived in the middle to start the CSK chase. As usual, Kagiso Rabada will launch the attack for Delhi. 

"I think we had a slow start but carried on playing our shots after that and capitalized well. I thought I would play my natural game, but a lot of ground shots because it's a nice outfield. I was trying to hit boundaries instead of making silly mistakes. We discussed after the last game and it was about getting into a good position in the powerplay and not lose more than one wicket. The plan was to play the natural game but play along the ground. The wicket was quite sticky in our game against Punjab. (On the inside edge against Chahar) Was there an inside edge? Hazlewood bowls the 20th. Pant goes over the bowler's head - one bounce four - to start the over, with Stoinis having joined him at the non strikers end. Stoinis gets strike with three balls left. Gets an edged four off his first ball. A leg bye for four and a single to finish the innings. DC score 175/3 in their 20 overs.

Final 2 overs. Iyer and Pant set for a big finish. Sam Curran bowls the 19th. Chases Iyer with his line as Iyer backs away to the leg side. Dot ball to start. Hit back straight to the bowler on the bounce, second ball. Another dot. Singles off the third and fourth balls. A couple off the fifth. Off the last ball - MS Dhoni leaps to his right and grabs a catch! Iyer is out for 26. 4 runs from the 19th over and the wicket. Curran has done a super job for his skipper.

'That's quite the Russel Crowe Gladiator look he has got now,' Mark Nicholas says of MSD. Hazlewood bowls the 18th over. Kedar Jadhav with a not-good-enough effort in the deep as Pant fires another boundary. Dhoni applauds the effort. A half-century partnership comes up between Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, off 32 deliveries, as Pant hits an aerial shot over the covers.

Sam Curran back to bowl the 16th. A good start from him but he gives away four needless overthrows. Chahar bowls out his quota in the 17th over. Iyer and Pant looking to keep the strike rotating with singles before they unleash a final burst. It'll be Jazlewood - not usually a death overs bowler - who they'll be up against. Iyer bowls a loose full toss, Iyer smashes him for four on the leg side to signal what might be start of the final assault. 

Deepak Chahar brought back in the 15th over as CSK go back to their spinners after 8 overs of spin. Pant times one to perfection to drive for four. A TimeOut taken after 15 overs, with DC 124/2. Pant on 15, Iyer on 7.

Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant are in the middle for Delhi now, with CSK having applied the brakes. Chawla bowls another brilliant over. Just 3 runs and another wicket from it. He finishes with 2/33. Jadeja being bowled out in the 14th over. Pant slog sweeps. Four to fine leg to start the over. 

Prithvi Shaw is stumped! He is out for 64 off 43. Shaw steps out to Chawla, misses, and Dhoni does the rest. CSK have finally got through Shaw. It's Chawla who does the trick again for CSK.

Rishabh Pant is in at 3 and is struck on the pads twice by Chawla. A successful over for CSK. 6 runs and a wicket for Chawla in the 11th over. Shaw keeps playing his shots, getting a four in Jadeja's over to follow. 

CSK still stick with spin. Dhawan goes over his head for another four. Then there's the breakthrough! Chawla gives CSK the first wicket. Dhawan is out lbw. He is gone for 35 off 27. An attempt at the reverse sweep but the execution is way off! KP says the execution suggests that's not a shot he practises often.

Prithvi gets to his fifty, off 35 balls, with a single. Dhawan continues going after Jadeja, gets a four to extra cover. Shaw pulls Jadeja for a six off the last ball of the over. Chawla and Jadeja have gone for 52 runs in the last 4 overs. 

Dhoni sticks with Chawla. Shaw goes over the covers, finds the gap in the outfield for another four. Two balls later, there's an action replay of that. Shaw going for the aerial shots more and more now. And they are all coming off for him. He's finding gaps in the field like Moses parting water. A Timeout taken as the DC physio is out to take a look at Shaw.

Dhawan gets into the act! Jadeja on to bowl the 8th over. And he is greeted by an absolute crasher of a shot from Dhawan. Six! From the middle of the bat. With 20 runs having come off 4 balls, Dhoni has a chat with Jadeja. Dhawan not bothered, crashes another four to cow corner. This is just the second time any Delhi side (Daredevils or Capitals) has scored more than 50 for the first wicket.

Time for Piyush Chawla's pin as the Powerplay ends. Shaw pulls him with power. With the field spread out now, the fielders in the deep cut off the shots. Chahar puts in an untidy effort in the field to give Shaw one four on the off side. Shaw cuts for four off the last ball. 13 runs off the over. Shaw has moved rapidly to 38 even as Dhawan is still in single digits.

Hazlewood bowls the 5th. Another tight over. Just 3 runs off it. Dhawan on 3 off 9 balls. Delhi's run rate exactly 6 after the 5th over, but the good thing for them would be that no wickets have fallen. Chahar back to bowl the 6th over, in danger of having his new ball duties usurped by Hazlewood and Curran, both of whom have conceded less than him. Dhawan attacks Chahar. 

Josh Hazlewood bowls the 3rd over and that is another tight over. One error in line from the bowler and Jadeja is there at point to put in a flying effort to save the boundary. Curran back to bowl the 4th. Shaw flicks him for four to square leg to start the 4th. Shaw goes over the top off trhe fourth ball, goes over mid off's head for another four.

Sam Curran bowls the 2nd over. Shaw does not have much luck against him. Just a leg bye for him. Dhawan is off the mark with a single. Replays show Chahar got an outside edge off Shaw in the first over but CSK didn't appeal. A rare miss for Dhoni behind the stumps. 

Prithvi Shaw looks to get going from the word go. Deepak Chahar bowls a few outswingers, inviting Shaw to slash hard, and the batsman obliges. Consecutive fours with that shot off the third and fourth balls. 

The DC innings set to begin. Shaw and Dhawan out in the middle for Delhi. Shaw on strike. Rohit spilled the beans during the lockdown on how much Dhawan likes taking first strike. He's standing happily at the other end as Deepak Chahar starts off proceedings for the men in yellow. We're off!

Josh Hazlewood gets a game. In place of Lungisani Ngidi. Ashwin is out. Amit Mishra comes in in his place. Also, Avesh Khan gets a game in place of Mohit Sharma.

CSK win toss, opt to bowl first vs DC

Dhoni seen bowling some off spin as we approach the toss. "What we're noticing is a great pitch. This wicket is an absolute beauty. The seamers are likely to pick a majority of their wickets with balls around the short length area. Big dimensions, difficult to catch under these lights," says Kevin Pietersen in his pitch report. Toss in 5 minutes.

News from the camps: Bravo is still not fit, and neither is Rayudu. Lungi Ngidi has been expensive so far. Could one of Imran Tahir or Josh Hazlewood turn out to be CSK's go-to option tonight? Shardul Thakur will be hoping to find himself in the mix too. DC might go in with an unchanged side - the big question mark being on Ashwin's availability. Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra and Ajinkya Rahane are the biggest names who might be called upon from the bench for them.

Less than an hour to go before Dhoni and Iyer walk out for the toss. Several questions ahead of tonight's blockbuster. Will Dhoni move himself up the order? The din about that is reaching crescendo levels right about now. Can Delhi get one of their openers to come good? Will CSK persist with Murali Vijay despite his slow innings last time out, and if yes, will he look to play in a different gear? With CSK looking stretched, can they find a new hero?
