First football referee of Odisha passes away at age of 100

Odisha’s first ever football referee, centenarian Narottam Mohanty passed away on Monday.

He was 100 years old when he breathed his last after a massive heart attack at his residence here this morning, family sources said.

He is survived by two sons. Mohanty earned the distinction of becoming the first qualified football referee of Odisha in pre-independence era. Many veteran sports persons paid their last tributes to the departed soul at his residence in KMBM road. State sports minister Sudam Marndi has expressed deep condolence over the demise of the ‘centurion’.

Mohanty was also considered as the oldest citizen of Baripada town.
