Portugal and Al Nassr player Cristiano Ronaldo has always been in the news for his outspoken nature. Since his move to the Saudi Premier League in 2022, the 5-time Ballon d Or winner has courted controversy a countless times, saying that the Saudi league was better than French Ligue One. In a recent interview with broadcaster Piers Morgan, Ronaldo went a step further, saying that it was easier to score in the Spanish La Liga than in the Saudi League.
“Excuses, excuses, it’s the easiest way. Year after year, I keep scoring more. Even in my worst season I scored 25 goals. If I play in the Premier League now, in a top team, I will score the same. I don’t need to speak. They can say whatever they want but the numbers don’t lie. They can say Saudi league. They have never been here, they never played here, they don’t know what it means to run in 40 degrees. And I’m still continuing,” Ronaldo said in Morgan’s YouTube show ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored.’
“And I repeat: The Saudi league is much, much better than the Portuguese league, French league – it’s only PSG, Premier league is good, they are number one. And they should count the gaols, top score for the golden ball. They don’t count the Saudi league. Why? Look at how many top players we have in the league. Ask the other players if the league is good. Don’t ask me. Because it’s easier to ask me. I played everywhere. For me, it’s more easy to score in Spain than in Saudi,” he added.
Last year, Ronaldo had made the claim that saying that the SPL was more competitive than its French counterpart i.e. the Ligue One.
“The Saudi Pro League is better than Ligue 1, of course. I’m not saying that because I play here. I don’t care what people think about it. Players should come here and they will see quickly. Just try to do sprints at 38, 39, 40 degrees…,” Ronaldo said at the Globe Soccer Awards.
“Come and you will see. If you don’t believe me, come. In France, they only have PSG, everyone else is finished. Nobody can beat them because they have the most money and the best players,” he added.
