MI IPL 2025 retained and released players: Mumbai Indians have retained their superstar quartet of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav during the IPL 2025 Retentions on Thursday.
Tilak Varma is the fifth retention for MI while seamer Jasprit Bumrah was retained in the top bracket at INR 18 crore. Captain Hardik and Suryakumar have been slated at Rs 16.35 crore apiece while former captain Rohit was retained at Rs 16.30 crore. All-rounder Tilak was retained for Rs 8 crore.
Among the notable players released are wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan and Australia’s hard-hitting Tim David. Mumbai will have the opportunity to buy back one of their released players with the availability of one Right to Match (RTM) card at the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
For every franchise, player retentions become significantly important going into the new mega auction cycle of three years starting from IPL 2025.
here’s how the retention system works. Teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players and have an overall allotted budget of Rs 120 crore for the retention as well as mega auction.
If a franchise opts to retain six players, they can retain a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players in either the 5+1 or 4+2 combination.
While the capped players are segregated into three brackets ranging from Rs 18 crore to Rs 11 crore, an uncapped player can be retained at Rs 4 crore.
