World Cup 2015: Misbah-ul-Haq, captain consistent in a team oh-so-inconsistent

The veteran captain tried to bring his team back from a huge deficit with a resilient 78-run inning in the midst of a colossal collapse from the rest of the unit which saw Pakistan squander a good start and collapse to 149/6.

His composure on the pitch seemed out of place in a line-up that was crumbling around him. With none but Ahmed Shehzad (46) and Harris Sohail (36) getting decent starts, Pakistan seemed destined to go down in flames, but Misbah’s ultimately doomed knock kept Pakistani hopes alive for a while before his crusade came to an end in the 46th over.

The 40-year-old has been a standout performer in a perennially inconsistent team over the last few years and his ODI average of 43 is a testament to that fact. He also maintains an overseas average of over 62, which is the highest among all Asian batsmen.

It’s been another disappointing outing against India for the Pakistan Cricket team but at least they have their reliable captain to fall back upon.
