Emblem: Surging Tides

The emblem of the Hangzhou Asian Games consists of six different elements: the shape of the instantly recognisable Chinese fan, the Qiantang River, a tidal bore, lines of a running track, the Internet icon and finally, on the top right, the glowing red sun of the Olympic Council of Asia. It was unveiled in 2018 at the end of the last edition.

Mascots: trio of robots

The three mascots for the Games are a group of robots, representing Memories of Jiangnan, which is a geographic area roughly China’s eastern regions south of the Yangtze River. The yellow robot Congcong represents the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City. The name comes from the Cong jade pendant-the quintessential relic unearthed from the Ruins. The green robot Lianlian represents the West Lake, another World Heritage site. The name comes from the lush lotus leaves.

The blue robot Chenchen represents the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, which is also inscribed on the World Heritage list. It derives its name from the Gongchen Bridge-a landmark structure in the Hangzhou section of the Grand Canal.

Medals: Shan Shui

Unlike the more commonly seen circular medals, the ones that will be handed out to the athletes in Hangzhou appear somewhat square in shape. The medals are characterized by the ceremonial jade Cong in the Liangzhu Culture (5,300BC-4,300BC). The square jade is integrated with a round medal on the inner side. The medal overall presents the geographical features of Hangzhou. The picture scroll of Hangzhou is outlined on the front side of the medal with protruding lines. Then there are misty hills on three sides and the city on one side, a rippling lake, and mountains beyond. The back side is shaped like a square seal.
