The Congress is giving another push to its ongoing campaign for October 5 Haryana Assembly polls with Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, taking the lead by way of a yatra, beginning September 30.
Senior state Congress leaders are tight-lipped about the exact route of Gandhi’s Yatra. Party sources, however, told The Indian Express that the yatra will be a continuation of Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi is also expected to join him in this yatra.
According to the party sources, the yatra will commence at about 11 am from the Naraingarh Assembly constituency and culminate by 5 pm in Kurukshetra.
“The yatra will cover various constituencies, primarily seven—Naraingarh, Mullana, Radaur, Ladwa, Sadhaura, Pipli and Kurukshetra. The yatra is expected to cover other constituencies in the following days before the campaign ends in Haryana on October 3. The schedule for the subsequent days is yet to be finalised,” a Congress leader told The Indian Express.
Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, state Congress chief Udai Bhan and other senior leaders of the party are expected to be part of Gandhi’s yatra.
While Priyanka Gandhi has yet not addressed any public rally in Haryana for the October 5 polls, Rahul Gandhi has addressed two—on September 26 in Assandh (Karnal) and Barwala (Hisar).
“The Congress is getting immense support from all 36 biradari across Haryana’s all 90 Assembly seats. With Rahul Gandhi’s yatra, the support for the party in the upcoming October 5 polls will further be strengthened. A convoy of vehicles carrying Congress workers and their supporters will form part of the yatra.
“It will not be a padyatra, but it will be more of a roadshow. Rahulji or Priyankaji might address the people briefly in the areas this yatra cover,” another Congress leader told The Indian Express.
