In Balochistan’s Mastung district, the blast took place near Madina Mosque on Al Falah Road, where devotees had gathered to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. The explosion occurred as a procession was being carried out in connection with Eid Miladun Nabi celebrations, Pakistan media house Dawn said in a report. Local cops told Dawn that Mastung’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nawaz Gashkori was among those killed. The suspected suicide bomber reportedly detonated the device near the on-duty police official’s car while the latter was inside it.

According to Dawn, at least four people, including a police officer, were killed while 12 sustained injuries when two blasts rocked the Doaba police station in Khyber Pakthunkhwa’s Hangu on Friday. The first blast took place at the entrance of the police station, while the second blast occurred inside a mosque situated in the premises of the police station. Following the blast in Balochistan, Karachi police took to Twitter to announce that security measures have been tightened.
“Additional IG Karachi Khadim Hussain Rand has issued orders to the Karachi Police to be on high alert in the wake of the explosion in the Mustang. Karachi Police have been issued strict instructions to tighten security measures in the city regarding Eid Milad-un-Nabi and Friday prayers and to be highly alert and fully monitor unusual activities,” it said in a tweet in Urdu.
Balochistan interim Information Minister Jan Achakzai described the explosion as “unbearable.” “The enemy wants to destroy religious tolerance and peace in Balochistan with foreign blessings,” he said, as per the report.
In a statement on Twitter in Urdu, the Pakistan Interior Ministry condemned the blast and said that “terrorists have no faith or religion”. “Interior Minister Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti strongly condemned the blast near Madina Masjid in Mastung, expressed deep sorrow and regret over the loss of precious lives in the blast, the attack on innocent people who came to participate in the Eid Milad-ul-Nabi procession…,” it said.
“All resources will be used in rescue and relief operations. No effort will be spared in treating the injured. Terrorist elements do not deserve any concession. Zero-tolerance policy is being followed to deal with terrorists,” the statement quoted Sarfaraz Bugti Ahmed Bugti as saying.
