The police have arrested five people in connection to Sunday’s scuffle at Goalabasti in the Tripura West district. The fight between two groups had led to the death of one person and injured a few others.

Goalabasti is one of Agartala city’s 58 slums and is located in close vicinity to the state assembly and the secretariat complex.

A team from the New Capital Complex (NCC) police station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

“The scuffle occurred over a land boundary dispute between two groups. One died and a few were injured in the fight. We have already seized the iron rod (murder weapon)… We are investigating to zero in on other persons who were involved in the incident,” said a senior official from the NCC police station.

Five accused people, identified as Bijendra Roy, Sachindra Roy, Dinesh Roy, Naseeb Lal Roy, and Ramsagar Roy, were arrested and forwarded to the court Monday, said the official.

The family members of the deceased demanded stern action against those involved in the killing. Goalabasti residents also protested at the busy VIP Road near the state secretariat claiming that the police have not arrested the prime accused in the brawl despite repeated requests.
