Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will visit Manipur and Tripura soon, according to Tripura MLA Sudip Roy Barman.
“After her arrival here, she will visit the Tripurasundari temple. I had a conversation with her,” Roy Barman said during a felicitation programme at Congress Bhawan in Agartala Monday for his induction into the Congress Working Committee as a permanent invitee.
He said his induction is a matter of pride for the party leaders and workers. He appealed to the party workers to strengthen the party.
“Whenever Congress becomes weak, the country is weakened, its people get weakened. There is none other than Congress as an alternative party (to the BJP). So, I appeal to all to come and make the Congress strong,” said Roy Barman.
“We need to come out of petty issues to think big.. like, how we are not contesting in Boxanagar…These 26 parties (of the INDIA alliance) came together because they didn’t focus on petty interests. If we fight among ourselves, who will take the benefit? The BJP,” he said.
Tripura Congress had announced the party would not contest the upcoming bypolls at Dhanpur and Boxanagar, respecting the spirit of the Opposition bloc INDIA. The CPI(M), an ally of the Congress in INDIA, has already fielded candidates for the bypolls to Dhanpur and Boxanagar Assembly constituencies set to be held on September 5.
Roy Barman said the Opposition bloc INDIA represents the core values of the Constitution. “This fight is not to gain power. This fight is for the existence of the country. This fight is for every Indian against the fascists who are not believers of democracy,” he said.
