Preparations are in full swing to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Tripura, who will visit the state on September 22 to inaugurate the redeveloped Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur in Gomati district, Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Monday.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit has been scheduled for September 22 as of now. He will reach here at 3 pm and go directly to Matabari for the inauguration,” Saha told reporters on the sidelines of Engineers’ Day celebrations at Agartala.

The prime minister will offer prayers at the temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas on the Indian subcontinent, and return without addressing any public event, the chief minister added.

Earlier, senior officials, including DGP Anurag Dhyankar, visited Udaipur as part of the preparations for the prime minister’s visit. Saha and other ministers are expected to review the arrangements, said a government official.

The Tripura Sundari Temple was built by Maharaja Dhanyavaad Manikya in 1501. Saha laid the foundation stone for the temple’s redevelopment and took part in its bhumi pujan in July. It is a Rs 97.7-crore project undertaken by the state government with the Union tourism ministry’s financial assistance.

“Tripura has implemented different tourism projects worth Rs 350 crore under Prashad (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) and with Asian Development Bank funding,” Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said earlier after visiting the project site, located 4 km away from the Tripurasundari Temple.

An official from the tourism department said the project features a park showcasing replicas of the 51 Shakti Peethas.
