Man lynched to death for alleged goat theft in Tripura, nine arrested
The man was found dead with his hands tied to a tree where he was allegedly beaten to death by a group of villagers who accused him of stealing the goat.

A 45-year-old man, Sunil Oraon, was lynched to death in Tripura’s West district on Saturday night, allegedly for stealing a goat. According to West Tripura Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar, nine persons, including two women, were arrested in connection with the incident and charged with murder. “We have produced them in court today. We hope to get them in custody for interrogation,” the official told The Indian Express.
Oraon was found dead with his hands tied to a tree where he was allegedly beaten to death by a group of villagers who accused him of stealing the goat. The victim’s son filed a murder case against the nine accused persons, and the police have launched an investigation.

This is not the first such incident in Tripura. Earlier in 2022, a 26-year-old youth was lynched to death in Sepahijala district on suspicion of cattle lifting, and three persons were allegedly assaulted to death in two separate incidents in Khowai district in 2021.
