After TIPRA Motha leaders said they were “highly satisfied” about their discussion with North-East Democratic Alliance chief Himanta Biswa Sarma over Greater Tipraland and other demands, he urged them to trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and “have a little bit of patience”.

Sarma, who is Assam chief minister and acting as a representative of Shah, said Friday that the Tripura tribals’ problems were high on the Union home minister’s agenda. He said Shah met TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma last week.

“During the interaction at Agartala, the home minister clearly said the Government of India has a roadmap. Now it is a question of patience. We all know the love and affection PM Modi has for the Northeast. Home Minister Shah is resolving all the problems of the region. Tripura tribals’ problem is also high on his agenda. It’s just a matter of time. I have told TIPRA Motha and Maharaj (Pradyot) to have a little bit of patience,” Sarma told a television channel at Guwahati.

Pradyot shared a video clip of Sarma’s television interview on social media and wrote, “We thank the government of India and we shall be patient as we understand that problems which are decades long cannot be solved overnight! We will also continue to observe and fight for our indigenous people till we don’t get a solution.”

This came after Sarma’s comments that he shared very “good relations” with Pradyot and that whenever there was something to talk about with Shah, he could speak on behalf of the Motha chief.

Sarma also said that in order to resolve problems of Tripura’s tribals, all sections of society and all stakeholders would have to be taken into confidence. “It is not that we can resolve it in one or two sittings,” the BJP leader said.
